More bad news for Heidfeld

NEWS STORY
11/09/2005

Nick Heidfeld's absence from the second WilliamsF1 looks set to continue following the news that he has cracked his shoulder blade after falling off his bicycle.

His manager, Werner Heinz, has revealed that the German also dislocated several fingers in a collision with a motorcycle.

Heidfeld has already missed the Italian and Belgian Grands Prix following an accident during testing at Monza. He took part in the first day of free practice for the Italian Grand Prix but subsequently withdrew, complaining of headaches.

News of the new accident may well fuel further speculation, in some sections of the media, that there is a hidden agenda, given that Heidfeld has yet to confirm his plans for 2006.

Although WilliamsF1 has an option on him, it is known that BMW is keen to acquire his services, with some sources claiming that he has already inked a two-year deal with the German team for 2007 and 2008.

However, the English team is mindful that it may yet lose Jenson Button, and will therefore be keen to leave its decision on Heidfeld's future until the last possible moment. That said, it's believed that WilliamsF1 has until Thursday (15) to take up its option on Heidfeld.
