Jordan pours cold water on GPWC

NEWS STORY
16/02/2005

Ahead of today's meeting between nine F1 team bosses and the group behind the proposed breakaway series, the Grand Prix World Championship, former team boss, Eddie Jordan, has poured cold water on the idea, saying that in the end everyone will stick with Bernie Ecclestone.

"A vast majority of the teams, once you've got Ferrari on your side, will all side with Bernie," the Irishman told BBC Radio Five Live.

Using a rather unfortunate analogy, he continued: "Bernie has looked after us almost like a godfather figure, in a tough, but fair way."

Although the GPWC offers an almost Utopian series, where everyone, manufacturers, teams, sponsors, broadcasters and fans would be happy. Ecclestone is offering the teams cold, hard, cash... and lots of it.

With several team bosses rapidly approaching the 'Autumn' of their F1 careers, one can't help but wonder how many will follow Eddie's example, and take the money and run… leaving F1 to fend for itself.
