Some interesting ideas, but how would Max enforce them?

NEWS STORY

It's not simply major issues such a single tyre supplier and limiting the range of material that teams may use, the FIA is proposing in its quest to cut costs, a whole raft of other ideas - some downright strange - are being mooted.

After years of talking, it appears that the FIA now wishes to limit Grand Prix weekends to two days.

  • Teams would use just two cars during race weekends, there would be no spare car.
  • The current engine life of two race weekends would be extended.
  • Serious reduction of aerodynamic downforce.
  • Tyre warmers would be banned.
  • Telemetry and sensors would be seriuosly restricted, if not banned.
  • Team would be required to use standard, long-life, components this would include brakes.
  • A rev limit on engines.
  • A standard centre of gravity (!)
  • There would be a limit as to how many personnel teams could take to races.
  • The possibility of salary caps.
  • An age limit on second drivers.

In trying to establish just how much some of these measures would really benefit the sport, one has to wonder how on earth Max his friends would possibly enforce and police them, having clearly bitten off much more than they could chew in the past.

Although some of the ideas are well worth considering, others would make a total mockery of Formula One's blue ribband status.
