Ecclestone looks set to become British GP promoter?

NEWS STORY
11/11/2004

Bernie Ecclestone's week just gets better and better.

Having, with the help of Paul Stoddart, Ron Dennis and the other team bosses, persuaded most people that it is Ferrari that is the true threat to the future of the British (and French) Grands Prix, in addition to getting the teams to agree to two extra races - for peanuts - Bernie Ecclestone looks set to promote next year's British GP himself, something that he has always wanted, though strenuously denied.

"It's a suggestion that has been made," Alex Hooton, chief executive of the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) told Reuters. "It was made within the context of the team principals' meeting (on Tuesday) but we have no direct confirmation. We are still waiting for a formal approach."

"The devil is in the detail," he continued. "But it is something which has a lot of merit on the surface. We will certainly have a constructive and very energetic look at it."

F1 fans, and their relatives, living in the Knightsbridge area are well advised to keep an eye out for Mr Excellent this weekend. Should he be seen in a local newsagent buying a lottery ticket, you would be well advised to use the same numbers.

This is his week.
