McLaren to reveal all on Thursday?

NEWS STORY
10/12/2014

The wait for McLaren to finally reveal its 2015 line-up appears to be over.

The Woking team has today invited journalists to a "Media Event" at its Woking HQ on Thursday, those attending asked to be there by 10:00.

It is widely believed that the British team, about to embark on its second marriage with Honda, will announce Fernando Alonso as its number one driver however, it is the identity of his teammate that is causing most interest, certainly as far as most British fans are concerned.

Will it be Jenson Button or Kevin Magnussen, or is Stoffel Vandoorne on the verge of stepping up to the big league?

In less than 24 hours all will become clear.

We sincerely hope.

"Far be it from me to upset our beloved Editor who works so ceaselessly on our behalf. My apologies Mr Balfe
BUT
EJ has big flappy ears, he often gets very good inside tips, and overnight last night the BBC were confident enough to make it their F1 Sport headline, and that's usually good enough for me. I did wonder who might steal Dennis' thunder by making sure it went out thru such a serious channel. If I were Button, a 'behind-McLaren's-back' spoiler would be irresistibly naughty after being messed around for so long. And it's not as if DC and Button aren't close either.... So, something/someone gave the BBC the confidence to make the announcement last night. When I woke up at 0545 it was all there. Glorious news, too!"

"@ Hardliner

The BBC cannot "announce" anything only McLaren and Honda can do that.

The invites went out at 12:28 yesterday (Wednesday) so only the British media is in a position to attend. McLaren would not make the fatal PR mistake of inviting the British media only to tell them that Button is out… such a move would be a disaster.

"Eddie Jordan has stolen a march on all the F1 websites and the BBC have announced overnight that it will be Alonso partnering Button next year at McLaren - perfect! "

"Possibly a certain Tesco / Johnnie Walker promotional event which took place today (at least according Twitter)?

So, why would you NOT want to announce your line up before this event where fans get to ride with Jenson Button, the McLaren driver? Bearing in mind the competition was a UK initiative, described as the opportunity to "Win a driving masterclass with Jenson & Johnnie Walker" not "Win a driving masterclass with that Dane Kevin & Johnnie Walker".

Personally, I hope I'm wrong..."

"I agree with your hope of a resolution of the driver issue, but I also hope that the management issue is also sorted.

McLaren cannot continue being run by 'Gradgrind' Dennis, whose behaviour towards his drivers, and similarly ill-mannered treatment of Martin Whitmarsh, shows a devastatingly clear example of a 'silk purse' never being able to be made from 'a sow's ear' and of how little he deserves (or respects) the inheritance of Bruce.

Both the Japanese and Middle-Eastern stakeholders in McLaren culturally prize a gentlemanly style and must wonder about their being tainted by the farcical, peremptory and plain rude inaction of their 'partner'.

No wonder Lewis is champion this year, now he is happier and more relaxed after being liberated from the grey and pervasive influence of Mr.Dennis and now surrounded by the human atmosphere of people who know how to behave, even in a highly competitive environment, such as Messrs. Lauda, Rosberg and Wolff.

And the 'modus operandi': a 'Media Event' indeed ! What a typically self-indulgent and self-aggrandising description - go, Mr Dennis, go. "

"So if they are going to announce it tomorrow at 10:00 they must know, already.

So why not just announce it, already?"
