Official: Senna replaces Heidfeld at Renault

NEWS STORY
24/08/2011

Lotus Renault GP has officially announced that Bruno Senna will partner Vitaly Petrov in this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.

The confirmation comes several days after Eddie Jordan revealed the news, the Irishman maintaining close links to Nick Heidfeld - whom Senna is replacing - the German having driven for his Silverstone-based outfit in 2004.

It is understood that since the story broke, Heidfeld and his representatives have been involved in tense negotiations with the Lotus Renault GP team, the German not willing to accept the decision which effectively marks the end of his F1 career. Though Renault only mentions the Belgian Grand Prix in its press release, it is widely thought that Senna will drive the second car for the remaining eight races of the season.

While there has been a question mark over Heidfeld's performance this year - particularly in terms of qualifying - some are saying that Senna can bring money to the team.

However, there are also those who remain unconvinced by the young Brazilian who made his F1 debut with Hispania last season.

Fresh out of the box, Senna will attend tomorrow's FIA press conference in Spa by which time the Enstone based outfit will have released further details of the move.
