Lotus Renault GP's Robert Kubica has been injured in an accident whilst taking part in a rally near Gerona in Italy.

Initial reports say the Pole was heading to the start of the Ronde di Andora earlier this morning (Sunday) when he lost control of his Skoda Fabia S2000 and crashed heavily into a guardrail which penetrated the car.

While his co-driver Jacub Gerber was able to climb from the car unhurt, Kubica had to be cut from the wreckage.

While exact details of his condition are unclear at present, he has been taken to hospital by helicopter having sustained a number of fractures including his left arm and leg.

Earlier this week, Kubica, who has taken part in a number of rallie sover thre years, posted the fastest overall time at the first pre-season test in Valencia.

It goes without saying that Pitpass and its readers wish Robert a speed recovery.
