White line rule dropped for safety reasons

Following complaints about the entrance and exit to the pitlane, officials at Yeongam have decided to temporarily relax the rule regarding the white marker lines.

Normally, drivers are punished for crossing the white lines at the exit and entry to the pitlane, however, pending changes to the track for next year's race, this weekend drivers will be allowed to cross the lines without punishment.

"I think it's as much as we can do at the moment, Jenson Button told Reuters. "It's great that Charlie (Whiting) and the FIA listen to our comments. We can now cross the white line on the pit entry which is great. I think it does help your entry speed, so it means that you are more off line when you do have to lift off. So if you have a car following you closely it's not so dangerous."

Referring to the pitlane exit, Button's McLaren teammate, Lewis Hamilton, agreed: "As you come out, the cars that have come around the corner out of turn one, they are in your blind spot," he said, "you don't even know if they are there. Every time you come out you are trying to see if there's anyone there, plus you have to get straight on to the racing line.... I think in the race it will be interesting to see how everyone deals with it. You just have to go for it really and hope for the best."
