Hellmund unveils Austin track layout

Tavo Hellmund, the man behind the proposed Grand Prix in Austin, has unveiled the track layout, confirming that the circuit borrows from some of fans favourite F1 tracks.

"It should be nice," he told Austin's Statesman newspaper. "I think drivers and fans should really like it.

The 3.4 mile track features 20 turns, a maximum elevation change of 133 feet, a back three-quarter mile straight and varies between 39 and 52 feet in width.

As Hellmund previously revealed to Pitpass' Chris Sylt, the circuit has been designed very much with fans in mind, therefore, other than ideal facilities for spectators, there will be plenty of opportunities for great racing including overtaking.

The layout has already been shown to Bernie Ecclestone, "he likes it," said Hellmund.

With Turn 1 being the corner at the bottom right of the diagram - the track running counter-clockwise - Turn 11 is at the very top. Various corners resemble Becketts at Silverstone, the Stadium section at Hockenheim, and Turn 8 at Istanbul.

"It will be similar to one gigantic turn," Hellmund said of the 'Istanbul section', however, in his opinion the "signature" corner is Turn 1 where the field will run uphill into a hairpin. "Everybody will pull out and probably go three-wide into that braking turn," he said.

Asked when work will begin on the project, Hellmund said: "I don't want to put a date on it. Everybody is hustling and bustling."
