BBC confirms its F1 plans

NEWS STORY
24/02/2009

The BBC has unveiled full details of its F1 coverage as the sport returns to the state broadcaster after a gap of eleven years.

As previously announced, Jake Humphrey will present the TV coverage, along with David Coulthard and Eddie Jordan. The pit lane reporters will be Ted Kravitz and Lee McKenzie, while Jonathan Legard and Martin Brundle comprise the commentary team.

In a surprise move, Bernie Ecclestone has virtually given his digital package to the BBC, which will be allowed to show live coverage of all practice sessions via the red digital button.

The package being given away for free is essentially the same digital package that viewers had to pay for in 2002 when it was broadcast on Sky Sports, and which is still paid for elsewhere.

Fans will have various options including split-screen action, live stats and standings, in-car cameras and choice of commentary. Better still, there will be no adverts.

Every race and qualifying session will be shown live on BBC1 except for the Brazilian event which will be shown on BBC2.
