Coulthard and Glock escape punishment

After studying video evidence and meeting with the drivers, the Race Stewards at Barcelona have decided to take no further action following the incident on Lap 53 of Sunday's race which saw David Coulthard and Timo Glock collide.

As a result of the incident, which happened a lap after the Scot had made his second scheduled pit stop, both men had to pit, the Red Bull having suffered a left-rear puncture after being hit by the front wing of Glock's Toyota.

The incident occurred when the German made a move on Coulthard at Turn 5, the Scot having previously been involved in the incident which ended with Sutil and Vettel being eliminated.

"I got whacked by Sutil going into Turn four and picked up some light damage to the side of the car," said the Red Bull driver after the race, "but after that I was running okay. After my pit stop, I took a defensive line into Turn four and five to show Glock that I knew he was there, but he hit the rear of my car and punctured a tyre."

Naturally, Glock saw it somewhat differently: "Coulthard came out in front of me and he was slow on his out lap," said the German. "He left me a bit of space and then closed it and I crashed into him. It destroyed my front wing again and that was it."

In reality, this is one of several such incidents Coulthard has been involved in this season, and many believe that although drivers should be paying more attention to their mirrors, others claim that it is the placement and size of mirrors, not to mention vibration, that is causing the problem.

Although the stewards deemed no further action was necessary, Coulthard was hit with a 4,000 Euro fine for missing the Drivers' Parade, thereby breaching Article 35.3 of the 2008 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.
