Despite a relatively lacklustre start to the season - certainly lacklustre enough for Fernando Alonso to admit that he is already considering other options - Renault boss Flavio Briatore insists that his team will be competitive this year and can win races.

"I think so, yes," he told Reuters yesterday, when asked if the French outfit can win this season. "In Barcelona we have the new package and absolutely yes, we can win.

The Italian was speaking following the announcement of a new sponsorship deal for Queens Park Rangers , he football club he owns in partnership with Bernie Ecclestone and Indian steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal.
