Ireland seeks maiden win

Belmayne A1 Team Ireland heads to Malaysia this weekend for round three of the 2007/08 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport with Adam Carroll looking to continue his impressive form at the Sepang International Circuit.

Adam heads to Malaysia on the back of an impressive debut which saw him record the team's best ever Sprint Race result, finishing on the podium in Brno before putting in a fantastic drive to storm through the field from P18 to sixth in the Feature Race. With a successful first weekend firmly under his belt, the 24 year-old is in back in the cockpit for round three with his sights set on scoring Ireland's first victory.

The 5.54km Sepang International Circuit is well known for its sweeping corners and wide straights. The unusual layout features a very long back straight separated from the pit straight by a very tight hairpin inviting cars to go wheel-to-wheel two or three abreast. Last season Switzerland and Germany took the spoils

In the five week break since Brno the team have been incredibly busy with the second car taking centre stage at the Toys 4 Big Boys exhibition in Dublin, appearing at an event in Ireland for sponsors OZO and being on show at the World Rally Championship in Ireland this weekend. Despite Adam being extremely busy with training and GP2 testing, the team all made time to come together to celebrate the Portadown racer turning 25 years-old in true Team Ireland style.

The team currently lies seventh in the championship standings and will be looking to close the gap on current leaders New Zealand as they pursue a debut win.

Adam Carroll: "I'm really looking forward to Malaysia next weekend. It's a circuit I've never been to before but it looks very challenging and has great facilities. Since the last race I've used the break to continue my training programme and have been working really hard on my fitness. It will be great to get back in the A1 car and I'm hoping to move forward from where we left off in Brno and be in a position to challenge for victory."

Dan Walmsley, Race Engineer: "The track has been re-surfaced since last time we were in Malaysia which may affect our set up. It's a very technical circuit for drivers so our main focus will be getting Adam up to speed as quickly as possible, especially considering the track is new to him. We really feel we've got close to the car set up after finishing on the podium last time out and we'll be looking to go one step higher at Sepang."

Mark Kershaw, Team Owner: "Last time out Adam made a fantastic debut getting on the podium in the Sprint Race and reinforcing that this year Team Ireland is definitely a much stronger force. I'm confident that our first win is not too far off and with Adams determination we're hoping for another good result in Malaysia to help us move up the championship standing."
