Following a request from McLaren, Fernando Alonso has been excused from today's official FIA press conference at the Hungaroring.

A team press conference, which would have featured Lewis Hamilton, was also cancelled.

According to informed sources, there is absolutely nothing sinister behind the decision to withdraw the drivers, merely the fact that it was felt that in the light of recent events undue pressure might be put on them, with journalists opting to question them about the espionage saga as opposed to the race that are in Hungary to contest.

As the World Championship builds towards a climax, the Woking team will want its driver to focus on the job in hand - the racing - as opposed to being distracted by the media scrum currently chasing the latest twist is the so-called spy-saga.
