Schumacher misses out

NEWS STORY

Readers of British magazine Autosport have voted BAR's Jenson Button, International Racing Driver of the Year, the award handed to the young Englishman by two-time world champion Mika Hakkinen at last night's event in London.

Michael Schumacher, who didn't attend the event, and was never scheduled to, is understood to be at home where he is being consoled by his wife, Corrina.

In London, Button admitted to being "surprised" and a "little bit embarrassed" at beating the German for the "coveted award".

In Switzerland, Schumacher had to make do by gazing forlornly at the 83 Grand Prix winner trophies in his F1 cabinet room, and the 7 World Championship winner awards.
