Third or fourth Jenson?

NEWS STORY
06/09/2004

Now perhaps we're a little bit out of line here - we're sure you'll let us know - but Jenson Button's admission that he has to leave BAR for WilliamsF1 because, amongst other reasons, he can't "keep finishing third or fourth in the championship", seems just a tiny bit presumptuous.

Until San Marino this year, his 49th Grand Prix, he had not stood on the F1 podium, while he has yet to see the top step.

In 2000, his first season in F1, Jenson finished 8th in the championship, while in 2001 and 2002, with Benetton, he could only manage 17th and 7th. Last year, his first season with BAR, he finished 9th.

Although he is admittedly looking good for third place in the drivers' championship, we're sure both Jarno Trulli and Fernando Alonso will give him a run for his money.

So where exactly does this "I can't keep finishing third or fourth in the championship" come from?
