The Sunday Sport, a tabloid of the worst sort which has absolutely nothing to do with F1, that is unless you are one of those that believes the F1 paddock is mainly populated by tits and a**holes, ran some interesting quotes from Bernie Ecclestone at the weekend.

The F1 supremo, although clearly delighted at the media coverage F1 is getting - especially during the 'summer break' - is morally up in arms over the Button/BAR/WilliamsF1 tug of war.

"Morally, Jenson has an obligation to stay," said Ecclestone, "but when agents, promises and big money come into it, morals go out the window.

"We are not like football," he added, "I like to think our players stick to their agreements and promises. This has all been quite stupidly handled and if a technicality allows him out of his contract, I don't think he would be much of a gentleman to take it."

Of course, Ecclestone is one of those rarities - both in F1 and in modern times - who is willing to seal a deal with a handshake, and stand by it. However as for gentlemen in F1, you'd have to go back to the days of Stirling moss and Rob Walker.

"We have a contracts board in Geneva which will examine the issue and decide what's right and what's wrong, if anything," added Ecclestone. "If Button is found to be in breach of contract with BAR and wants to move on illegally, he could lose his super licence and that would mean he couldn't drive for Williams."
