Talking of Senna memorabilia...

27/02/2013

In the wake of the sale of a pair of Ayrton Senna race gloves to Lotus owner Gerard Lopez for £22K, our partners at Memento Exclusives have a few other items of interest relating to the Brazilian legend.

First off there's the Toleman TG184-2 F1 car, designed by Rory Byrne and Pat Symonds and used by Toleman Motorsport during most of the 1984 season.

Ayrton Senna used this car and stunned the crowd at a very wet Monaco GP where he came up from a starting position of 13th to lead the race and finish 2nd behind Alain Prost in the much more competitive McLaren MP4/2. This performance in the Toleman took the racing world by surprise and still lives on in the memory of many F1 fans as the best opening season for a rookie.

Senna used this actual car in 1984 season, taking it to 2nd (& fastest lap) in Monaco and 3rd at Silverstone.

This car is complete and features the Hart 1.5 straight 4 Turbo engine (This engine would require a rebuild before running). It also features Suspension (front) double wishbones, pull-rod actuated coil springs over dampers. Suspension (rear) double wishbones, push-rod actuated coil springs over dampers. More details here.

Then there's a 1987 Lotus 99T Main Engine Cover. The Lotus 99T was designed by Gerard Ducarouge for Lotus for use in the 1987 season. This engine cover is from Senna's actual Lotus 99T race car and it has been used on track.

The Lotus 99T car gave Senna two race wins during the season, one at the Monaco Grand Prix and the other at the Detroit Grand Prix. This is the main engine cover from Ayrton Senna's car which extends from the front nose all the way to behind the engine mount. This piece is extremely rare and a once in a life time opportunity to own a piece of Ayrton's racing history. More details here.
