Anger mounts over Indianapolis crash delay

In the wake of Ralf Schumacher's heavy accident at Indianapolis on Sunday, and the seemingly endless wait for a medical crew to attend the German, anger and frustration has been mounting.

Pitpass readers were amongst the first to voice their frustration at watching the German's wrecked WilliamsF1 stranded in the middle of the track, cars passing by on either side, while the driver remained motionless. For many, the scenes conjured up horrific memories of Imola 1994.

Now, however, it is the drivers that are airing their views regarding Sunday's events.

"I'm disappointed if Ralf was sitting there for a few minutes," said McLaren's David Coulthard, "because that's life or death stuff. That needs to be looked at."

While BAR's Jenson Button is of the opinion that the race should have been red-flgged: "It should have been stopped," said the Englishman. "The accident was bad in itself, but there was debris as well.

"It should have been stopped," he said again, "or they should have taken us through the pit lane and brought the hoover out."

BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen, was also critical of the way in which the 'rescue' was handled

"It was one of my thoughts at the time," said the German, "it took too long."
