The WiliamsF1 team has issued a statement in the wake of Ralf Schumacher's accident during the United States GP at Indianapolis.

"After examination by medical staff this morning (Monday), he has been discharged and is flying home to Salzburg early this afternoon.

"Ralf is well, but has a bruised back and strained back muscles. He will not be taking part in scheduled testing duties for the team due to commence on Wednesday in Jerez."

As previously reported, BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen has admitted that there is a "question mark" as to whether the German will contest the Forthcoming French GP, which takes place on July 4.

Following his accident during testing at Monza last year, Schumacher missed the Italian GP, his place was taken by Marc Gene, who went on to finish fifth.

It's understood that contingency plans are already being put in place, in case Ralf feels he isn't ready for Magny-Cours. The team has said that it will leave the final decision to him.
