


Biography
On 2 January 2005, Chanoch Nissany made history when he became the first Israeli driver to sign up as a Formula One test driver. Although much was made of the deal, it is hardly likely to change the course of Formula One history. The reality is that at the time of the signing, Chanoch was 41 and Minardi is more likely to have been tempted by his connections (sponsors) than his driving talent. The fact that he is not the team's third driver - which would see him take part in the Friday sessions at Grands Prix - but mere test driver, speaks volumes. Chanoch first came to prominence in 2002 when he won the Formula 2000, Hungarian National Championship, he also contested the Group E-2000 FIA Central European Zone Circuit Trophy, finishing runner-up. In 2003 he successfully defended one title while winning the other, he also took part in a number of rounds of the World Series Light by Nissan Championship. For 2004 he once again successfully defended his Formula 2000, Hungarian National Championship crown, in addition to contesting three rounds of the F3000 Championship (Hungaroring, Spa and Monza). He was also appointed official test driver for Coloni. To round off a perfect year, Chanoch had tests with both Jordan and Minardi, which in turn led to the 2005 test drive deal with the Italian team.
