Jean Alesi, who retired from F1 at the end of last season told F1 Racing magazine recently that in terms of natural talent, no-one can match Fisichella, despite the Italian's failure to secure a grand prix victory.

"I honestly think Giancarlo is better than Michael in terms of natural talent: he has incredible car control and an ability to concentrate on strategy without losing speed," said Alesi.

"Except in terms of working to maximise his potential, which Michael does best, Giancarlo is the best driver in F1."

Fisichella returns to Jordan this season still searching for his maiden F1 victory and Alesi's comments will no doubt inspire the Italian as he prepares for the first race of the 2002 season.
