Austin seeks date change

05/12/2012

Just hours after the FIA announced that the date of the 2013 German Grand Prix has been changed, officials in Austin are seeking the rescheduling of next year's event at the Circuit of the Americas.

Officials at the Texas track are seeking the move because the current date (November 17) conflicts with a University of Texas home football game.

Consequently, with as many as 260,000 attending the Formula One race, officials fear the clashing of the two events will put intolerable strain of the city's infrastructure particularly hotels and the transport system.

Though circuit chairman Bobby Epstein says he is confident that F1 officials will work on finding a solution, he admits the race date may not be changed.

As in 2012, TV fans in America face a clash with NASCAR, the final round of the series taking place on November 17 at Homestead in Florida.
