FIA confirms two DRS zones for Monza

The FIA has confirmed that as in 2011, there will be two DRS zones at Monza, one on the main pit straight and the other on the run from the second Lesmo to Ascari.

The activation zones are in pretty much the same spot as last year, albeit moved by a few metres.

The first detection zone is 20m before Turn 11 (Parabolica) whereas in 2011 it was 40 metres after Turn 11. The activation zone is 115 meters after the finish line while last year it was 110 metres.

The second detection zone is 95 metres before Turn 7 (the second Lesmo) while in 2011 it was 67 metres before the corner. Activation is 210 metres after the turn while last year it was 160 metres.

Changes to the circuit ahead of this year's race include the wall on the driver's right approaching Turn One has been moved closer to the track and an additional marshal post provided 150m before the corner.

The track has also been resurfaced from the exit of the Ascari chicane (Turn 10) to a point after the exit of Parabolica (Turn 11) and the pit wall fence has been renewed.

The stewards this weekend include former F1 drivers and five-time Le Mans winner Emanuele Pirro. In a motor sport career spanning almost 40 years, Pirro has achieved a huge amount of success, most notably in sportscar racing, with his Le Mans wins, victory at the Daytona 24 Hours and two wins at the Sebring 12 Hours.

In addition he has won the German and Italian Touring Car championships (the latter twice) and has twice been American Le Mans Series Champion.

He enjoyed a three-season F1 career from 1989 to 1991, firstly with Benetton and then for Scuderia Italia. He subsequently spent four years as a test driver for McLaren. His debut as an FIA Steward came at the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Pirro is joined by Gerd Ennser, Member of the DMSB's Executive Committee for Automobile sport, Formula One and DTM steward and Silvia Bellot a graduate of the FIA Trainee Steward Programme.
