Official: Schumacher to return for Ferrari

Ferrari has tonight announced that 7-time world Champion Michael Schumacher will replace the injured Felipe Massa.

In a brief statement issued this evening, Ferrari said:

"Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro intends to put Michael Schumacher in Felipe Massa's car until the Brazilian driver is able to race again.

Michael said he is ready and, over the next few days, will undertake a specific training programme at the end of which confirmation will be given of his participation in the Championship with effect from the European Grand Prix on the 23rd of August."

The announcement comes after a couple of days in which conflicting comments were made by people close to the German legend.

While his manager Willi Webber was adamant that Schumacher would not return to the F1 cockpit, telling Germany's SID news agency: "Michael will not sit in a car in Valencia. This is out of the question", the 7-time champion’s personal assistant Sabine Kehm said that the 40-year-old might consider a return.
