Fisichella to enter BMW Europe Championship

14/10/2007

Fisichella Motor Sport International has announced that it will expand its motor racing repertoire by entering the new Formula One and GP2
support series for 2008 - the Formula BMW Europe Championship.

The team currently competes in the International GP2 Series and over the winter months will also take on the inaugural GP2 Asia Series challenge. The 2008 Formula BMW Europe Championship will support F1 and GP2 for seven races in Europe.

Giancarlo Fisichella, FMSI's figurehead is very positive: "I am delighted that we are strengthening our racing activities by entering this new and exciting championship. Formula BMW Europe provides us with an ideal platform to evaluate and develop new talents, who may then graduate one day to our GP2 racing team."

Team principals Paolo Coloni and Enrico Zanarini are equally excited about the new challenge: "This is a new venture we have been working very hard on for some time. We were very happy to receive confirmation this week from BMW of our team entry and we will now push ahead with our engineering development and driver evaluation programmes."

FMSI's Formula BMW outfit will operate from its Passignano headquarters near Perugia in Italy. FMSI has already recruited a team of highly-respected engineers to begin work on the new project.
