No German GP this year

18/04/2007

Don't panic, don't panic, we aren't down to 16 races, no will there be a four week gap between the British and Hungarian Grands Prix.

The fact is, that, as has been evident on the FIA website for some time, the race to be held at the Nurburgring on July 22 will be the European Grand Prix.

This follows the fact that the Automobil Club of Germany (AVD) and Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobilclub (ADAC) have been unable to reach an agreement over naming rights, and with the AVD owning the term 'German GP', the ADAC, which has strong connections with the Nurburgring, opted to revert to the European GP title.

This means that for the first time since 1960 there not be a German GP.

When the race returns to Hockenheim in 2008, it will revert to being the German GP, the two circuits having agreed to host Germany's round of the World Championship in alternate years from this year.
