Alonso unsure of night race proposal

15/03/2007

Though some appear extremely enthusiastic regarding the prospect of Grands Prix being held at night, two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso isn't so sure.

Speaking in Melbourne ahead of this weekend's season opener, and just 24-hours after Ron Walker, head of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, admitted that he was to discuss the issue with Bernie Ecclestone, Alonso admitted that previous experience hasn't encouraged him.

"I did a demonstration in Valencia when we launched the car in January and it was at night," he told reporters. "And it was extremely difficult to see anything, to see the road. For me, it's very hard to believe that they will have strong enough lights to see perfectly okay to have a race."

However, the Spaniard refused to entirely dismiss the idea: "But sometimes, Formula One surprises you," he added. "However, I think from a drivers' point of view it will be very difficult to say anything about this until we are driving."
