BAR, a win at any cost?

NEWS STORY
04/03/2005

BAR team principal Nick Fry admitted today that the most important thing on his team's agenda is a race win, and that the Brackley outfit is prepared to do almost anything to get it.

He admitted that although last year's runner-up spot in the constructors' championship was an amazing achievement, what his team really wants is a race win.

"Obviously in the last three years we've gone from eighth to fifth to second and it has been a great improvement," he said, "but we didn't win a race and we were a country mile behind Ferrari. So, we shouldn't pat ourselves too much on the back.

"Our objective this year is to win a race even if we have to compromise our championship position somewhat," he continued, "we will make the trade-off. It is good fun. We have a highly-motivated team and two hugely-motivated drivers and a great team spirit. We will go for it."

The general consensus of opinion is that the Brackley team might make an all-out effort in one race - and thereby sacrifice its chances in the following event, the most likely scenario being an engine built to last just one weekend, perhaps even just one race.

The FIA makes the rules and it's the job of the technical men to exploit them.

To the max.
