FIA clips BAR's wings

NEWS STORY
09/04/2004

According to Autosport magazine, the FIA has blocked BAR's plans to introduce a 'radical' new rear wing, which the team felt would boost performance.

The new wing would have essentially given the BAR 006 a third element, even though the 2004 regulations have reduced the number of elements to two. BAR thought they had found a loophole in the regulations, clearly not.

According to the British magazine the FIA was consulted as to the legality of the new wing, the end result being that it has been shelved.

The Brackley outfit has witnessed an amazing turn around in both performance and results this year, consequently the team wants to maintain its challenge, hence the new wing and a number of other aerodynamic improvements, in addition to an upgraded power-plant from Honda.

The first of the new components will appear at Imola later this month, though technical director Geoff Willis insists that the car will look pretty much the same.

The car will not look very different," he told Autosport, "but we do have an aero package and an engine upgrade. It is a nice step.
