Fisichella posts 1:38.139 but Ralf, then Davidson, go quicker. The action is fast and furious.

Davidson tops the timesheets ahead of Trulli, Ralf, Wirdheim, Fisichella, da Matta, Massa and Panis.

Button goes second with a 1:36.899 as Barrichello begins a hot lap. 1:36.427 sees the Brazilian go straight to the top of the timesheets, while Coulthard goes fourth and Raikkonen sixth.

Schumacher and Webber come out for their first laps of the second session as Montoya posts a 1:37.196 to go ninth.

Webber goes quickest, beating Barrichello's time by 0.165, but both Alonso and Schumacher appear to be on quick laps.

The German posts 1:35.983 to go quickest only to be leap-frogged moments later as the Spaniard posts a 1:35.341, that's 0.642s quicker than the Ferrari. The Renault driver goes quickest in the first sector but his second sector is a little sloppy, he fails to improve.

Davidson's weekend is over, the Englishman pulls off in the third sector, it appears he has gearbox problems.

Fifteen minutes gone and Alonso is quickest ahead of Michael, Webber, Barrichello, Davidson, Button, Coulthard, Zonta, Ralf and Trulli.

Trulli improves to go eighth with a 1:36.816, but he's still 1.4s off his teammate's pace.
