Talking Point: That 2006 Season

NEWS STORY
29/10/2006

The 2006 Formula One World Championship season is finally over, and what a season it was.

Although, after just a few races, Fernando Alonso and Renault looked set to be heading for back-to-back titles, thanks to an amazing fight-back from Ferrari and Michael Schumacher, not to mention certain outside forces, we had the title fight go right down to the wire.

In our latest Talking Point we want you to look back at the 2006 season and tell us whether it was good as we think it was, and also, moving forward, are there lessons to be learned.

We say farewell to Michael Schumacher and Ross Brawn, but we also 'lose' Michelin, Cosworth and the tobacco companies.

We had controversy, courtesy of Michael and his poor parking in Monaco, yet also the mass dampers saga, not to mention Alonso's grid penalty at Monza.

We lost Jacques and Juan-Pablo, but discovered Robert and Sebastian, while looking ahead we have the prospect of exciting new blood such as Hamilton and Piquet.

We saw Jenson Button finally take his maiden win, while who could fail to be impressed by the progress of Super Aguri?

What are your overriding memories of 2006, what were your disappointments, what frustrated you… what delighted you.

As we look ahead to 2007 and beyond, how do you feel the new rules will impact the sport, is the control tyre the way to go, and what about the lack of engine development in the years ahead?

Fernando heads to McLaren, while Kimi moves to Ferrari. Will the Woking team rediscover the form of 2005, is Ferrari's 'golden era' coming to a close?

Let's hear your thoughts.

This season was anyways Alonso's, however the poor memory of biased Ferrari fans, and the publicity seeking press have made it into something that its
not. Firstly the two victories at Germany and Imola for Ferrari were clearly through the small advantage they enjoyed by using the flexi wings and when
that was removed they had already gotten away with three race wins and a number of solid points finishes, without which they wouldn't be troubling
the Renaults. Alonso was supreme in his machinery all year long right from the start to the finish race after race.
