Minor aerodynamic changes to cars

1. Michael Schumacher

Sunday: Used both cars in warm-up. Stayed in third place at the start in a Williams sandwich, and stayed there until lap 44 when pitted for 8.5s. Rejoined fourth, set two fastest laps and when Ralf pitted, found self in second place and quickly caught Coulthard, pushing him to chequered flag, 1.050s behind. 2nd
Saturday: Slowed on circuit with 27 minutes to go of morning session when he lost the throttle due to an electrical problem and took no further part in session. Aborted first qualifying run due to cloud of smoke in tunnel. Balked by Montoya on second and also picked up something in his eye. Had two clear runs at the end. 3rd/1m 17.118s
Thursday: Fastest in morning session. Reasonably happy with session and no major problems. However, not found ideal set-up yet. Worked on race set-up throughout the day. 11th/1m 20.404s

2. Rubens Barrichello

Sunday: Used spare and race car in warm-up. Happy with balance. Dropped two places to seventh at start but soon pushing Raikkonen for sixth place. Tried to overtake at the chicane on lap 40, but hit Raikkonen up the back and pitted for new nose section. Only lost place, but given a 10 second stop/go penalty for causing the accident. Served this on lap 42 but then given a drive-through penalty for speeding n the pit lane and served this on lap 44, rejoining tenth and soon eighth. Inherited seventh when Salo retired and caught Frentzen in closing stages, finishing 0.409s behind him. 7th
Saturday: Fastest in first part of morning session. Reported car not bad in qualifying and could have been good enough for second row. Quick on second but then blocked by Coulthard and traffic on final run too. Like teammate, tried two runs on scrubbed fronts and new rears. 5th/1m 17.357s
Thursday: Getting to grips with circuit and working on race set-up. Reasonably happy. Still needs to find right balance. 7th/1m 19.945s

West McLaren Mercedes

Revised undertray for this race. Dennis encouraged by Michelin performance. Have brought five cars.

3. David Coulthard

Sunday: Troublefree run in warm-up, using both cars. Straight into the lead at start, eventually pulling out 2.0s lead by lap 30 after early tyre graining. Car started smoking on lap 32 but problem corrected by two way telemetry. Four second lead by lap 38, then up to 17s by lap 49. Pitted on lap 51, just ahead of Michael and pushed by Michael to flag, 1.050s ahead. 1st
Saturday: Reckoned could have been on pole but had to abort final lap due to traffic. Encouraged by tyres and high downforce nature of the track. 2nd/1m 17.068s
Thursday: Worked on finding balance and made progress but suffering some understeer. Felt could have gone faster. Learned well and found good basis for the race. Surprised by level of grip. Picked up over a second on last new set of tyres, despite scrappy lap. 3rd/1m 19.597s

4. Kimi Raikkonen

Sunday: Race car repaired after damage to rollover hoop the previous day, used it and spare in warm-up. Up two places to fifth at start, pushed by Barrichello and then caught Trulli. Barrichello thought he had space to overtake on lap 40 at the chicane, but ran into the back of McLaren, which needed new rear wing. After lengthy pit stop, rejoined but no balance and retired two laps later. Retired
Saturday: Clipped inside apex at Ste Devote and ripped off front left wheel when hit barrier on the outside. Rollhoop was damaged in recovery, so using spare car, but then that emitted oil smoke due to problem with oil system so eventually qualified in Coulthard's spare car. 6th/1m 17.660s
Thursday: Went off into the barrier at the entry to Rascasse and then spun to the outside after 27 minutes of morning session, taking no further part in the day having set only six laps. Damaged monocoque and will use spare for rest of the weekend. 19th/1m 22.904s

New front wing endplates

5. Ralf Schumacher

Sunday: Tried minor set-up changes in warm-up. Stayed fourth at start, soon pushing brother Michael for 30 laps, but then dropped back a fraction. 2.3s behind Michael when he stopped, then caught and passed ailing teammate. Pitted for 7.7s on lap 50 but came out behind brother. Then suffered puncture on lap 65 and stopped for 6.1s. Then lonely race. 3rd
Saturday: Went up escape road at Mirabeau in second part of morning session, but able to rejoin. Held up by Frentzen on first qualifying runs but troublefree on other runs although last one suffered traffic again. Possibly didn't use tyres to best effect. 4th/1m 17.274s
Thursday: Happy not to have had problems. Found track surprisingly clean. Happy with balance of car and have made tyre choice. 6th/1m 19.937s

6. Juan Pablo Montoya
