Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro
Worked on brake development and traction on Friday.
1. Michael Schumacher
Sunday: Used both spare and race car during warm-up, working on tyres and trying to improve the car in the second sector of the lap. Took race car for the race. Slotted into second place at start, challenging teammate Barrichello for 11 laps before he pulled away. When safety car came out on lap 24, pitted immediately but behind teammate and has to wait to make 8.8s stop. Emerged third behind brother Ralf and chased him until he stopped on lap 47, then second. Pitted again on lap 62 in 6.4s, emerged 3.7s behind teammate but closed in last five laps, overtaking just before chequered flag. 1st
Saturday: Fastest in both parts of morning session. Went off at final corner briefly but rejoined. Went off at second corner in qualifying but rejoined. Found race car slow in qualifying so switched to spare which was only marginally better, brakes being to blame on the race car. Also had problems with traffic on two runs. 3rd/1m 08.704s
Friday: Fastest in morning session with two identical laps. Brief off at turn two in afternoon plus another but "that's normal at this circuit" said driver. Happy with tyres, expected teammate to be quick. 2nd/1m 10.579s
2. Rubens Barrichello
Sunday: Fastest in troublefree warm-up. Straight into the lead at the start, challenged by teammate to lap 12 when began to ease away. Opened up maximum lead of 2.3s on lap 15 but then it varied. Pitted when safety car came out on lap 24 in 11.4s but re-emerged in the lead with Ralf second. When safety car went in on lap 36, eased away to 2.4s lead before Ralf pitted, leaving 3.7s lead over teammate. That grew to 4.4s on lap 60 before pitted on lap 61 in 6.2s. Emerged with 3.7s lead again over teammate but then that disappeared in final stages, overtaken by teammate under team orders in final yards. 2nd
Saturday: Went off on Trulli's oil at penultimate corner but was able to rejoin. Later had major fright when overtaking Salo around the outside into second corner and forced wide onto grass under braking. Both times set quickest time on second lap with same tyres. 1st/1m 08.082s
Friday: Went off into gravel trap at turn two and abandoned car at end of morning session. Worked on tyres in afternoon, using latest soft Bridgestone, softest used since start of season. 1st/1m 10.549s
West McLaren Mercedes
3. David Coulthard
Sunday: Scrubbed tyres in warm-up. Managed to pass Massa and Raikkonen on first lap and into sixth place but then left by Heidfeld ahead and Raikkonen retired behind. Still sixth when first safety car came out, and side-by-side with Heidfeld when he lost control causing second safety car. Pitted on lap 28 behind safety car. After that went in, holding fifth place but then overtaken by Villeneuve on lap 40 and then challenge by Fisichella who overtook on lap 45 when Coulthard ran wide on oil. Stayed with Fisichella to chequered flag. 6th
Saturday: Had another off at penultimate corner in second part of morning session but able to rejoin. Otherwise troublefree, but position, similar to last year's, reflects overall performance level. Arrows spun ahead of him on last qualifying run when track at quickest. 8th/1m 09.335s
Friday: Went off at penultimate corner but was able to rejoin in morning. Then off again in afternoon and rejoined. Worked on race set-up and tyres. 9th/1m 11.416s
4. Kimi Raikkonen
Sunday: Used both spare and race car in warm-up. Overtaken by Coulthard to lose one place at start but followed teammate until revs dropped on lap six and pulled off. Retired
Saturday: Had off at penultimate corner in second part of morning session but rejoined. No major problems during the day, overall lack of speed. 6th/1m 09.154s
Friday: Small improvements made since last race working on varying fuel loads. 4th/1m 10.657s

5. Ralf Schumacher
Sunday: Scrubbed rain tyres in warm-up but had a couple of off-course excursions. Lost places on dirty track at start to Michael and Heidfeld but soon in solid third - but 31s behind Ferraris - to safety car period. Held second after Ferrari stops, behind Barrichello, ahead of Michael and successfully held off brother as Barrichello pulled away after safety car went in. Made single stop in 8.8s on lap 47, but dropped behind teammate when he emerged from his single stop on lap 51. Closed up on him at end. 4th
Saturday: Admitted rising temperatures helped qualifying performance. Car very good. 2nd/1m 08.364s
Friday: Went off at turn two early in afternoon session but rejoined and later had a spin there, again rejoining. One excursion blamed on software problem. Still car set-up problems to be sorted out and uncertain which tyre compound to use. 12th/1m 11.652s
