1. Michael Schumacher

Same 2001s as in Melbourne, but fitted with minor, unspecified new components and adapted for improved cockpit cooling.

Sunday: Used both race and spare car for seven laps in warm-up. Into lead going into first corner but slid wide and Montoya, losing nose section. Pitted for 12.5s and new nose cone end of lap one, rejoined 21st. Up to 13th after ten laps, then pitted again from ninth on lap 19. Into sixth on lap 26 and up to 2nd on lap 40 when made second pit stop in 8.4s. Rejoined fourth, 21s behind third car. Gap 17s with ten laps to go, then 13s with five laps to go. 7.1s with two laps to go, but just 1.3s with one to go and took third place on last lap. 3rd
Saturday: Felt might have gone quicker if waited until final minutes, but decided to go out slightly earlier to avoid traffic. Fourth consecutive pole at Sepang. Car perfect, he said. Ferrari's 150th pole. 1st/1m 35.266s
Friday: Spun after setting fastest time halfway through first part of session but able to rejoin. Had another spin after eight minutes in second part of session. Worked on defining tyre choice. Happy with tyres. Didn't much work on car set-up. 3rd/1m 38.490s

2. Rubens Barrichello

Sunday: Fastest in morning warm-up. Made minor aerodynamic change, experimenting with brake system adjustments. Held 1.4s at end of first lap which steadily grew to 3.3s after five laps, 4.8s after ten, then 6.0s after 15 when it stabilized. Pitted for 6.6s after 21 laps, rejoining third, then overtaking ailing Raikkonen for second. Back in lead when Ralf pitted on lap 31 but just 3.8s ahead. Pitted again in 10.6s on lap 35 and dropped to second, only to retire on lap 40 with engine failure. Retired
Saturday: Had quick spin in second part of morning session and rejoined. Took time to find right set-up after car appeared to have changed since morning having felt more 'together'. Needed to get rid of understeer and braking difficulties. Did lap at the end of qualifying. 3rd/1m 35.891s
Friday: Went off at penultimate corner in first part of session but able to rejoin. Then stopped with engine problem towards end of second part of session. Ran race set-up all day. Still much work to do. 7th/1m 39.279s

Only changes: aerodynamic adjustments

3. David Coulthard

Sunday: Worked on fine-tuning car in warm-up. Found car easier to drive in race trim. Overtaken by teammate at start, pushed by following Heidfeld. By lap six, shadowing third placed teammate, 1.0s - 1.4s behind. Closed up on lap 10, but two laps later, car on nine cylinders and began to fall back. Pitted to retire in garage from seventh on lap 15. Retired
Saturday: Weekend in hell continued with off and then spin into gravel at the entrance to turn 14 from which he didn't recover in second part of morning session. Suffered oversteer during qualifying and couldn't attack corners. Need to improve race set-up. 6th/1m 36.477s
Friday: Pulled off in smoke flames after 22 minutes of first session due to a high tension wire short-circuiting which led to the righthand exhaust overheating which caused a bodywork fire. Reportedly pushed the car from the holding area back to pits so that work could be started in order to be out early in the afternoon. Went off after ten minutes of second session and didn't rejoin. 2nd/1m 38.038s

4. Kimi Raikkonen

Sunday: Had slight problem with set-up adjustment which took time in warm-up. Slotted into early third place ahead of teammate and Heidfeld, steadily being dropped by Ralf however. 13s behind him on lap 15 and now 2.8s ahead of Heidfeld as teammate dropped back. Badgered by Barrichello after Ferrari's pit stop for a couple of laps on lap 22, but then huge cloud of smoke heralded retirement at final corner on lap 24, allowing Barrichello to pass, as Raikkonen headed for pits. Retired
Saturday: Suffered oversteer, balance not ideal. Felt not quick enough, even though outqualified teammate again. Made mistake on second run. 5th/1m 36.468s
Friday: Spun at turn nine but rejoined in second part of session while holding fastest time, then off again towards the end. Had brake problem in first session. Car not perfectly balanced. 1st/1m 37.399s
