Arrivabene: We are committed to at least win two races

NEWS STORY
30/01/2015

Whilst admitting his team cannot challenge for the title, new Ferrari team boss insists that 2015 target includes at least two race wins.

The best looking car is a winning car," declared the Italian when asked about the SF15-T. "Last year it was an ugly car, and on top of that it was a non-winning car.

"I like this year's car, in terms of the aesthetics," he continues. "I don't know about the performance, but it's really sexy."

It's a brand new car and brand new team, in terms of driver line-up and management, so how will this affect the philosophy of the team, he is asked.

"It doesn't affect the philosophy of Ferrari," he replies. "The philosophy of Ferrari was founded by Enzo Ferrari. The work we have to do is to enhance the team spirit, to reignite the passion that was a little lost in the last few years, to work together very hard. We have one objective, to win as much as possible.

In December, Arrivabene targeted two wins in 2015, does that remain the objective?

"I am realistic," he responds. "Nobody has the magic to change things when things are unchangeable.

"The car was ready in December," he reveals, "we applied certain modifications that in our opinion are quite interesting. I don't want to say that we are going to win the world championship but, for sure, we are committed to at least win two races."

Of his new driver line-up, which sees four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel partnering 'old boy' Kimi Raikkonen, Arrivabene says: "They have to work together as teammates, they have to work together with the team.

"However, I would rather talk about the overall team, as opposed to just the drivers," he continues. "The fact is, everybody is pushing, working together in the same direction and I'm expecting the drivers to do the same.

Asked about his recent comments concerning the lack of a 'wow factor' in contemporary F1, he says: "I'm not really interested in the number of cylinders. What is interesting is that everybody has to understand that we (F1) needs a revolution not an evolution. A revolution means creating a show, making Formula One more spectacular, with beautiful cars, noise... a Formula One that gets closer to the spectators. This, for me, is what is important."

All looks too sloppy for me, and that attitude comes from the top! Mark my words!"

"Time will tell for this team.

My bets is if they fail this year they may well, for the first time ever take a sabbatical from F1 and go WEC, and who could blame them?"
