Red Bull officially appeals Melbourne disqualification

NEWS STORY

Red Bull has officially appealed against Daniel Ricciardo's disqualification from Sunday's Australian Grand Prix.

The team had until today to lodge its appeal against the decision which saw Ricciardo, who finished second, disqualified after his car was found to have been running an illegal fuel flow rate.

In the wake of Sunday's decision the Austrian team said that it would appeal and a spokesperson for the world champions today confirmed that this is the case.

Since then the manufacturers of the fuel flow meter at the heart of the issue have claimed to have the full support of the FIA, whilst rival teams, who have revealed that a problem with the units has been known since pre-season testing, have distanced themselves from the world champions.

With the teams now heading for Malaysia, and Bahrain just a week later, it is not known when the appeal will be heard.

"What a complete waste of time! Since everything else about the set up is regulated, fuel should be open. If I manage to cram more fuel through the mill. Well, good for me and bad for you, maybe? More fuel therefore > btu's therefore > hp therefore > broken rods and cranks therefore less than 6 races on a mill therefore 5 grid spot penalty for me. If there so worried about fuel flow. Why not just hand each team a sealed drum. All the drama and so little time."

" The issue must be settled before the next round to avoid world motorsport's premier championship degenerating into a farce as the controversy drags on. "
