Mercedes to launch 2013 car via Twitter

02/02/2013

Mat Coch writes:

Mercedes has announced plans for an interactive launch of its 2013 car. Using social media the German marque announced that it will gradually unveil the W04 as fans tweet about the new car, starting from 4pm (GMT) today.

"Fans of the team will be able to dictate the pace of the F1 W04 online reveal by posting on Twitter using the hashtag #F1W04Reveal," the company wrote on its website.

"Each tweet will trigger the opening of a garage door on our website, behind which is hiding the new F1 W04."

The Mercedes team's official Twitter account has been posting obscure photos of the new car for the past few days. Indeed most teams have turned to social media outlets during the release of their new cars, with Sauber using YouTube while McLaren posted snippets of video on Twitter throughout its launch.

Mercedes formal launch is scheduled for Monday at the Jerez circuit in Spain, before the first pre-season test the following day.
