Community Service for Pic after reg flag pass

22/09/2012

Mat Coch writes:

Charles Pic has been handed a twenty second penalty ahead of tomorrow’s race after passing under red flags.

The incident happened at the end of this morning’s practice, after the session had been halted when Vitaly Petrov’s stricken Caterham stopped at the pit entrance.

Pic was summoned to the stewards office and was duly found guilty of having passed four points where red flags (warning lights) were displayed.

Interestingly along with the time penalty Pic and his race engineer will have to perform a day’s ‘community service’ for the FIA, taking part in the governing body’s FIA Action for Road Safety Campaign.

Meanwhile, Pedro De La Rosa will receive a five-place grid penalty for taking a fresh gearbox for this weekend. It will almost certainly guarantee the Spanish veteran starts from last place on the grid for tomorrow’s race.
