The Ice(cream)man's Sepang Sundae

NEWS STORY
25/03/2012

The weather in Malaysia may be hot and humid but Kimi Raikkonen is doing his best to cool down the hard working media contingent.

In 2009, Raikkonen famously abandoned his car after the race was red-flagged. A heavy deluge and late starting time saw visibility reduced to almost zero, and while his competitors sat in their cars poised for a restart Raikkonen ate ice cream. It was typical Kimi, the Finn doing his own thing regardless of what everyone else said or thought.

On Raikkonen's return to Malaysia for the first time since that infamous day in 2009, the Lotus PR department delivered an ice cream to each and every journalist in the media centre.

"Please enjoy this ice cream," read the accompanying note. "I hope it leaves you refreshed and ready to enjoy the Malaysian Grand Prix."

The Lotus team's Twitter account also got in to the spirit of things, sporting a new #SepangSundae hash tag.

Raikkonen has been the talk of the paddock since his return, a fact which leaves the Finn somewhat nonplussed.
