Ferrari cancels launch

02/02/2012

Ferrari has cancelled the launch of its 2012 contender due to heavy snowfall at Maranello.

After two days of snow, the Italian team finally bit the bullet this morning tweeting that the launch of the new car has been cancelled An hour later, the following was issued:

"There was no let up from the snow last night, which continued to fall on Maranello and the surrounding area and the situation does not appear to be changing this morning. The forecast is still bad both in terms of predictions of more snow fall and of a further drop in temperature.

"Therefore, the decision has been taken to cancel the presentation ceremony for the new car, which was to have taken place at 10.30 tomorrow. The decision was taken because of the weather conditions and because of the difficulties that would have faced the 300 or so people due to attend from the team partners, the authorities and representatives of the media in their attempts to get to Maranello."

Instead of the unveiling and words of determination and encouragement from Luca, Stefano, Alonso and Felipe, fans will now have to make do with the pictures, interview transcripts and technical data which will be issued on Friday morning.

With testing due to begin at Jerez on Tuesday, it's unclear whether Ferrari will have a low key event at the Spanish track beforehand, though with Lotus, Sauber, Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Williams already due to host unveilings it could all get a little bit busy.

On the other hand, Force India is due to unveil its car at Silverstone tomorrow, where, though very cold, conditions are a little better.
