Ghosn: Williams has greater potential

31/10/2011

Renault believes it could be the answer to the Williams teams flagging performance. The Grove-based team is due to switch to Renault engines for the 2012 season, a move which can't come soon enough after its worst season on record.

"We trust the Williams team, and obviously we supply engines to them because we think they have much greater potential than what they are delivering today," revealed Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn. "They have the strategy, they share it with us, and we think by supplying them with engines it will help them re-position themselves in a much better place in Formula One."

The last time the two companies worked together the pair dominated the sport, winning Williams-Renault four drivers' world championships and five constructors' titles between 1992 and 1997. Since then Williams have managed no better than second in the Constructors' Championship while Renault has won two titles with its own team, and a further two as engine supplier to Red Bull.
