Schumacher congratulates Hamilton on title win

04/11/2008

Seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher has congratulated Lewis Hamilton on winning the 2008 title.

On his official website, the German writes: "I congratulate Lewis Hamilton."

Like the rest of us, Schumacher, who retired at the end of the 2006 season, was blown away by the tension of the closing laps of Sunday's race.

"What a finale," he continues. "I am still overwhelmed from the race. I have never seen anything like this, not as a racer and not as a spectator - you can probably only say it was fate."

The German also sends his commiserations to his former teammate and pupil, Felipe Massa, who won Sunday's race, and, for a brief brief seconds, looked to have won the title.

"I am sending very warm greetings to Felipe and all our guys in Brasil. Felipe can leave that race with his head up, as with this performance he surely has convinced all the people who still had doubts about his driving skills. He will for sure attack again next year."
