FIA changes Valencia pole slot

23/08/2008

Ahead of today's qualifying session, the FIA's safety delegate Charlie Whiting announced that it had been decided to change the pole position slot from the left-hand side of the track to the right-hand side.

A statement issued before the session read: "Having observed the line taken by cars across the grid, and in accordance with Article 36.2(a) of the F1 Sporting Regulations, the first grid position will be removed and pole position will now be on the right hand side of the grid."

Article 36.2(a) decrees that at new tracks the positioning of the pole position slot is decided by the FIA safety delegate.
