BMW mechanic in new KERS scare

22/07/2008

Just one week after an incident at Red Bull's Milton Keynes HQ, which led to a section of the factory being evacuated when a test of the battery system for the team's KERS device led to a small fire, there has been an incident at Jerez also involving the system due to be introduced next season.

I the latest incident, a BMW mechanic suffered an electric shock after touching the car, which was fitted with the device.

After Christian Klien had completed a couple of installation laps, on returning to the pits a mechanic touched the car and was thrown to the ground by the force of the shock. He sustained slight injuries to his left hand and grazing on his left arm. After a brief examination at the track's Medical Centre, he returned to work with the test team.

Because the team is still investigating the incident, the car did not run in the afternoon.
