FIA approves Spyker name change

NEWS STORY
24/10/2007

As previously reported, Spyker, now under the ownership of Vijay Mallya and Michiel Mol, will race as Force India next season. The name change was officially approved by the World Motor Sport Council today.

Normally, under the terms of the Concorde Agreement, it is the teams that need to (unanimously) agree to name changes, however, since there is no Concorde Agreement at present, it was left to the FIA to make the decision.

Force India, which will use Ferrari powerplants, is the latest incarnation of the Jordan team, which subsequently morphed into Midland and then Spyker.

Although there will be a strong Indian theme to the team, Mallya has said that this will not necessarily extend to its drivers, certainly not in its debut season. Indeed, Mallya is said to be keen to retain the services of Adrian Sutil, who, for the most part, has given a good account of himself this year.

India is to host its maiden Grand Prix in 2010.
