Ferrari workers go on strike

07/05/2007

Workers at Ferrari - which only recently was voted the best place to work in Italy - have gone on strike for the first time in twenty years.

The strike follows complaints that workers were fined for allegedly disturbing a tour of the factory by a number of top journalists, though there were also other issues including dissatisfaction with the size of a recent pay rise.

The strike won't effect the F1 team, since it was limited to the road car division. However, support was high, with almost 80 percent of the workforce staying away from work.

At one point workers on the picket line began to sing; "We have a dream in our hearts - to see Cordero driving a tractor", referring to company boss Luca Cordero di Montezemolo.
