Beijing Preview: Team Mexico

NEWS STORY
09/11/2006

A1 Team Mexico driver Salvador Duran has already arrived in Beijing in the Peoples Republic of China to participate in round 3 of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport that will be held this weekend at a 3.1-Km. street circuit, in which will be the first time that a motorsport series competes at the above city.

"This time we will not have Sergio Perez as a test driver for the team, due to he is focused in all the details to pick up a new team for 2007 racing season. We understand this situation and we support Sergio," said Julio Jauregui, Executive Vice President of A1 Team Mexico.

And he added: "About this weekend, it will be used a temporary track on the Beijing streets, around the Jingkai exhibition centre and because this is the first time that it is built the circuit, it is a new track for all competitors. Nobody knows it. So, for this time we will follow a conservative strategy. We support Duran and each time the team is more competitive."

On the other hand, Salvador Duran said: "I am already at Beijing. It is a beautiful city and I want to walk on the circuit. It will be an interesting event because nobody knows the track and the pavement has never been tested (under these conditions). Nobody has the ideal settings, and there will not be too many parts available and it will be very important the first practice that I go out. I will not have a lot of time to test and learn the track, so I have to take advantage of the little time that we have to drive. We need to do as much as possible to be always out there on the track."

"It already passed a tough part of the season at two tracks that are very demanding and which many teams and drivers have experience on. Here in China the situation changes, so I hope we will be consistent and we will collect points. We have the chance to get the lead, because we trail Germany by one point only (19-20), and we are working very hard on that."
