German tracks agree to share GP

After much speculation, officials at the Nurburgring and Hockenheim race circuits have agreed to share the German Grand Prix for the foreseeable future.

With both tracks suffering financially, in the wake of increasing costs and falling spectator numbers, sharing the German round of the World Championship appeared the only solution.

However, Hockenheim owned the rights to the official German Grand Prix title (Grosser Preis von Deutschland), and consequently it was down to reaching a suitable financial agreement.

Today, speaking to AP, Hockenheim spokesman Hartmut Tesseraux, revealed that agreement had finally been reached, and that next year's German GP will take place at Nurburgring, before moving to Hockenheim in 2008.

A similar arrangement saw the British GP alternate between Brands Hatch and Silverstone in the 60s and 70s.
