Red Bull and Jordan wait and see

NEWS STORY

Although Sauber has joined six other 'rebel' teams and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Grand Prix World Championship, 'new' teams Red Bull and Jordan, now owned by Midland F1, have said that they will wait and see how the situation develops, but will not be pushed into making a decision.

Thus far, while Ferrari has committed to Bernie Ecclestone's Formula One until 2012, nine teams remain undecided, though seven have signed MOUs with the GPWC.

Although several team bosses have admitted to being highly impressed with GPWC's presentation, it is widely thought that they are simply turning the screws on Ecclestone and that that MOU signifies a little more pressure.

Red Bull and Jordan however, prefer to sit on the fence.

We have circulated a note to GPWC saying we are committed to the official world championship under the terms of the current Concorde agreement until the end of 2007," Red Bull team principal Christian Horner told The Guardian.

"We are considering both propositions," added Trevor Carlin of Jordan. "If we jump in now with GPWC we will have no clout or influence, so we will sit tight and wait and see. We may still have the Jordan name but the reality is that we are new kids on the block and we certainly don't want to upset the formula one applecart. We are enjoying being courted by both sides and don't feel that we are in a hurry to make a decision."

Although the team does indeed "have the Jordan name", it also has the Midland F1 name, and one cannot but help but feel that the presence of 'F1' in its name means something.
